THEY GROW SO FAST!!!
It’s true that newborns grow and change so much in their first few months. If you’re anything like me, I bet you’re thinking about all the best ways to capture and remember every little detail. of your newborn. There is no doubt that compiling as many photos as possible is the best way to capture those adorable features that you never want to forget! You have probably been dreaming of these newborn photos ever since you found out you were pregnant.
Unfortunately, hiring a professional photographer can be a bit tricky due to the current situation. Don't worry, we've got you covered! You'll be just fine.
We have 7 tips that will help you take beautiful photos of your newborn!
Tip 1: A happy model. Choose a moment when your little one is happy or asleep to get the best results. Your shoot will be easier and your photos will be much better if your baby is in a good mood. Try breastfeeding or bottle feeding your little one right before your session! Don't worry if your baby is sleeping, you'll be surprised how these will probably be your best captures.
Tip 2: Outdoor light is your best friend. For best results, take your photos near a bright window, but not in direct light. Avoid dark places or rooms lit by artificial light. You can soften the daylight by draping a sheer white curtain over the window. You'll usually get your best light in the mid-morning or late afternoon. Make sure the sunlight doesn't shine on your baby's face.
Tip 3: Simplicity. Choose simple outfits in neutral colors, white, beige, pastel, etc. For example, a beautiful gray or beige bow sleeper . And if you choose a print, make sure it matches your decor. Accessorize very simply with one or two blankets in solid and neutral colors. Select one or two accessories in materials such as natural wood, green leaves, a rattan rug or basket, a lounge cushion or a bed . Or simply a white blanket.
Tip 4: Plan your session in advance. Create a mood board with newborn photos you would like to model yourself after. Also, make sure your props/outfits are ready in advance!
Tip 5: Capture the same photo from multiple angles. If your baby is on the floor, get down and take the photo, then get up on a chair and take the same photo again. Take close-ups, details (like hands and feet). Take LOTS of photos, then focus on selecting the best photos.
Tip 6: Don't forget to take pictures of you and your newborn. The best captures are those simple moments: like giving your baby a kiss in front of a white curtain, a photo of your newborn snuggled in your arms or sitting on your favourite chair rocking them. Favour clothes in the same colour palette. You can opt for simple clothes like a bathrobe for you and a matching blanket for your better half.
Tip 7: Make some minor adjustments! There are many editing software programs like Lightroom or Photoshop or download a free editing app on your phone! You can change settings like exposure, contrast, shadows and make some minor color corrections. You can also create or buy a preset to keep your results consistent!
Be patient with yourself! Often an imperfect photo becomes perfect over time.
